Soft Tissue Mass
- Symptom
- soft tissue mass
- Considerations
- Use xray first to detect obvious findings and direct next test. US for suspected lymph node or high likelihood of benign lesions such as lipomas and cysts. MRI for most others especially if mass near joint.
- CT limited role in initial workup. PET and bone scan almost none.
Recommended tests
- Xray of affected region. Consider repeat xray in 10-14 days.
- MRI hip, knee or ankle
- CT without contrast
- Ultrasound extremity (limited)
For other considerations, call or text the radiologist.
