Considerations

• Xray most important first test. If negative and high clinical suspicion, then MRI most sensitive and specific test, especially older patients or difficult exam. CT useful in younger post traumatic patients if xrays equivocal.

Recommended tests

• Xray of affected region. Consider repeat xray in 10-14 days.
• MRI hip, knee or ankle
• CT without contrast
