• Chest xray should be attempted first but should not delay obtaining a CT or MRI scan if needed. Alternative causes of chest pain may be discovered. However CXR is NOT the definitive test for aortic dissection.

Recommended tests

• CTA chest and abdomen with IV contrast
• MRA thoracic
