CT cervical myelogram (if MRI contraindicated)


Strengths
specialized workup for spinal stenosis in patients who cannot have MRI and occasionally ordered for post surgical patients and/or evaulation of hardware; Intrathecal contrast injected under fluoroscopy in radiology immediately prior to CT.
Limitations
MRI mainstay for most other C spine indications. Except acute trauma where CT C spine without contrast can be useful.
Contraindications
1) Allergy to contrast, but we will premedicate patient as necessary.

Patient Preparation
NPO 4 hours, but can take meds with small sip of water. Patient will be monitored for 2 to 3 hours after the procedure. May need driver.
