CT brain without IV contrast

Strengths
First choice for: acute trauma, to rule out intracranial bleed, evaluate acute CVA or TIA, or to exclude hydrocephalus prior to lumbar puncture.
Limitations
If CT is to be used for neoplastic workup or evaluation of possible meningitis, IV contrast will be required to do so. However MRI is much more sensitive and generally recommended.
Contraindications
None.
