- Strengths
- good for adenopathy followup, sialoadenitis and detection of possible masses. Prefer IV contrast for all.
- Limitations
- MRI better for head and neck CA, salivary gland tumors or for characterization of known masses:: Ultrasound can be useful for detection or confirmation of superficial masses and nodes and can guide biopsy :: Use thyroid ultrasound for thryoid nodules.
- Contraindications
- 1) Allergy to contrast, but we will premedicate patient as necessary; 2) IV contrast will be dose adjusted dependent upon creatinine clearance.
