CT neck with IV contrast

Strengths
good for adenopathy followup, sialoadenitis and detection of possible masses. Prefer IV contrast for all.
Limitations
MRI better for head and neck CA, salivary gland tumors or for characterization of known masses:: Ultrasound can be useful for detection or confirmation of superficial masses and nodes and can guide biopsy :: Use thyroid ultrasound for thryoid nodules.
Contraindications
1) Allergy to contrast, but we will premedicate patient as necessary; 2) IV contrast will be dose adjusted dependent upon creatinine clearance.
