- Strengths
- uses specific positioning and maneuvers to accentuate abdominal wall and inguinal hernias. IV and oral contrast preferred for complete evaluation.
- Limitations
- Consider abdominal ultrasound if just to screen for hernia. Cheaper test and very sensitive, but may not be able to delineate full extent of involvement.
- Contraindications
- 1) Allergy to contrast, but we will premedicate patient as necessary; 2) IV contrast will be dose-adjusted dependent upon creatinine clearance.
