- Strengths
- Generally will need INR<2.0 and platelets >50K. Also specify if therapeutic or diagnostic (fluid will be sent for routine lab evaluation unless otherwise specified). On site radiology nurse support.
- Limitations
- Additional information: Very low complication rate. High volume paracentesis available - albumin infusion will be coordinated through infusion center. Pleurex indwelling catheters available through interventional radiology.
- Contraindications
- Coagulopathy. Some anticoagulants must be held for procedure: coumadin held until INR<=2.0; lovenox held 1 dose or 12 hours prior to procedure; plavix and full dose aspirin prefer to hold 3-5 days.

- None. Patient will generally need to stay for infusion of albumin if paracentesis volume > 6 liters.
